Polaris AB: Cosmic Messages 2021
Leto was a daughter of Titans and through Zeus became the Divine Mother of the twins, Apollo, the Sun God and Artemis, the Moon Goddess.
She was worshipped and received devotion as the Goddess of Motherhood at three magnificent temples at a place named after her, Letoon, in Ancient Lycia in modern day Southern Turkey.
The mosaic shown is seen within one of the temples and represents the Lyre of Apollo, the symbol of Lycia or Likya (Land of Light) and the Bow of Artemis.
The temples were built at the site of an Ancient Spring. One day, a group of local peasants were drinking water from the Spring. They were moaning and complaining about the difficulties of their lives and how they wish things could change. Upon hearing them, the Goddess Leto appeared to them and asked if they would pass her some of the water while she asked them what was troubling them. Instead, they laughed and contemptuously stirred up the water making it muddy and unfit for her to drink. In her anger at her treatment, she turned them into frogs which are still there today in the muddy waters complaining about their condition.
